DIMAPUR — Incessant rain since Monday triggered a massive mudslide between Tsiepama and Piphema along the National Highway 29 on Wednesday, cutting off road connectivity between Kohima and Dimapur for several hours.

Unconfirmed reports said hundreds of Kohima-bound vehicles from Dimapur were stranded, with traffic halted from Jharnapani to Sechü-Zubza.

With the intervention of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), the road was partially cleared by 7 pm, allowing light vehicles to pass in one direction.

A traffic police source in Dimapur said that one-way traffic would remain open unless another major mudslide occurred.

Traffic personnel and road maintenance teams with machinery are stationed at the site to monitor the situation.

Vehicles will move in a staggered manner, and in the event of another major slide, the road condition and travel advisory will be updated, the official added.
