Railway minister inaugurates passenger amenities, dedicates new double line section

Dimapur, Feb. 21 (EMN): Railways Minister Rajen Gohain on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed station buildings and passenger amenities at Hojai, Lanka, Dhalphukhuri and Habaipur.
On the same day, the minister also dedicated a double line section between Hojai – Habaipur in Hojai.
Speaking at the programme, Gohain said that work of doubling of Digaru to Hojai and from Habaipur to Lumding is going on in full swing and would be completed by the end of March 2020.
Since 2014, he said INR 28905 crore has been allocated for the construction of projects which is about twice the fund allocated during 2009 to 2014.
Apart from commissioning of Bogibeel Bridge, he mentioned that six new line projects and three each for gauge conversion and doubling projects has been commissioned in NE since 2014.

Gohain also disclosed that three new lines, four doubling projects worth INR 16312 crore have been sanctioned since 2014 and 43 projects of INR 98000 crore are under progress, of which 25 are new lines. Out of these projects, he said that 11 are national projects and so far three have been completed.

Forty new train services have been introduced in Northeast since May 2014, he added.
A 20 km long broad gauge double line between Hojai—Habaipur is part of Hojai – Lumding doubling project sanctioned in 2012-13, said the railway chief public relations officer.

The new line has the potential to run passenger traffic at 100 kmph.
The line will greatly help in removing traffic congestion on the section and improve punctuality of trains on the crucial Guwahati – Lumding section, the officer said.

The four stations which were also inaugurated have various provisions for differently-abled persons including ramps and toilets for Divyanjans.

The stations will also provided amenities like waiting halls, foot over-bridges, drinking water, covered platform and circulating areasfor passengers, it said.
The Railway officer also mentioned that the construction of double line is under progress for the entire stretch from Digaru to Lumding.
