The deputy commissioner (DC) of the district Dr. Man A Zir Jeelani Samoon has commissioned a FM 101.8 megahertz relay station at O Point at Wokha village. Speaking at a simple ceremony marking the event, Samoon said that the commissioning of the relay centre was another achievement for the district as the people of Wokha and its adjoining areas will find benefit through it. Through the radio news can be disseminated easily to the remote areas, he said. People can listen to the radio even without power supply. Besides, he said radio plays a great role in educating farmers about government schemes and policies. The DC called upon the public to cooperate with the broadcasting organisation in making their services efficient in the region. Samoon hoped that the relay centre would expand for the benefit of the educated youth ‘through employment generation.’ He declared open the relay centre by cutting a ribbon and switching on the button for the transmission. Also, deputy director general (engineering) at All India Radio of Kohima, KV Ramachandran, said that the Wokha relay station was second after Phek’s. He has assured longer durations as and when more technicians or engineers are posted. Mhao Humtsoe, the chairman of the Lotha Hoho, thanked the AIR officials for the facility. He was confident that the relay centre in Wokha would immensely help the public. He assured fullest support in helping the relay centre excel in providing service to the people.
