Pughoboto citizens storm police station to protest rape

Dimapur, Oct. 1 (EMN): Irate members of the public on Saturday stormed Pughoboto police station demanding that the authorities hand over an alleged rapist currently in police custody.
The incident reportedly took place in Mishilimi village on September 6 when an elderly woman in her ’60s was allegedly raped by the accused, Mukibur Rahman, a mason in his mid-twenties, when the victim was alone at home. The victim was stated to a physically challenged person.
The incident came to light following an FIR lodged by her brother today after his returning from a business errand.
After learning about the incident, members of the public of Pughoboto led by the Mishilimi unit of the Sumi Totimi Hoho stormed the police station demanding that the authorities hand over the accused persons to the public.
Confirmed sources informed Eastern Mirror that a public rally has been scheduled for October 2 in Pughoboto headquarters at 7 am. The public rally is being organised jointly by the Mishilimi unit of the Sumi Totimi Hoho and the Sumi Aphuyemi Totimi Hoho.
The public will also submit representations to the ADC of Pughoboto demanding befitting punishment for the accused, it was informed.
