Public rally in Pughotobo protests rape

Dimapur, Oct. 2 (EMN): Residents of Pughoboto town in Zunheboto district on Monday held a public rally to protest the rape of a 60-year-old woman, according to DIPR report.
The rally was organised jointly by the Mishilimi Totimi Hoho, the Sumi Aphuyemi Totimi Hoho, the Mishilimi council and the Mishilimi Students’ Union. The report stated that the protestors also submitted a memorandum to the ADC Pughoboto demanding life imprisonment to the accused person.
“ADC Avelu Ruho, in presence of the administrative officer, SDPO, and DBs assured the gathering that the case will be forwarded to the higher authority to accord the strictest penalty to the accused,” the report read.
As reported earlier, irate members of the public had stormed Pughoboto police station on Sunday last to protest the rape, and demanded the authorities hand over the accused. The rape incident took place in Mishilimi village on September 6 last. The accused has been identified as one Mukibur Rahman.
