Imphal, April 27 (EMN): Demanding justice into the recent ‘gangrape’ incident, civil society organizations of different communities under the aegis of Core Committee of Phaknung gang rape of two minor girls (CCPGTMG) staged a protest rally, in Imphal on Thursday.
The rally was started from Ima Khunthokhanbi complex in Imphal and passed through important routes including Khoyathong, Dingku Road, Lamlong and Minuthong before converging at starting point where a public meeting was organized.Condemning the incident and demanding stern actions against the culprits at the earliest, CCPGTMG’s Convenor N Jibanmala, said, “We came out to hold the rally to deliver justice to the victims without delay.” Urging the concerned authorities in the state and National Commission for Women to take necessary actions, she demanded punitive punishment to the accused so that no one repeats the crime in future.
On August 18, Imphal East district police arrested the seven young persons accused of raping two ‘minor’ girls somewhere at Phaknung area in Manipur’s Imphal East district on April 14 night, following a complaint was lodged, sources in Imphal said. However one of the seven accused involved in the incident was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East on April 25 and was remanded to four days judicial custody for further questioning while six other accused have been sent to Juvenile Home.
