DIMAPUR — The department of Political Science, Public College, Dimapur, conducted a special lecture on the topic “Naga politics: issues and problems” on April 9 at the college premises.

According to a press release, the lecture aimed to provide insights into the complex political landscape of Nagaland, addressing its significant issues and challenges.

Resource person H John Sema, former head of the Department of Political Science and former dean of the School of Social Sciences at Nagaland University, provided a comprehensive analysis of the historical, socio-cultural, and political dimensions of Nagaland politics on the occasion.

He shed light on the role of various stakeholders, including Naga political groups, government agencies, and civil society, in shaping the political dynamics of the region.

John also spoke about the Framework Agreement between the Government of India (GoI) and the NSCN (IM), signed on August 3, 2015, and the Agreed Position between the NNPG and GoI, signed on November 17, 2017.

He mentioned the contentious issue of shared sovereignty, the pan Naga Hoho, and particularly, the demand for a separate flag and constitution, which has become the bone of contention between the GoI and the NSCN (IM).

In his welcome address, Dr. AK Talukder, the principal of the college, underscored the significance of the lecture in deepening understanding and promoting dialogue on Naga politics.

The programme was chaired by L Doiong Phom, assistant professor in the department of Political Science, and concluded with a vote of thanks by Renjanbemo N Erui, assistant professor in the department of Political Science.
