Dimapur, Oct. 29 (EMN): After the Indian government announced the ban on several ‘Chinese’ apps including PUBG Mobile, PUBG Mobile India’s official Facebook page announced on Thursday that it would be terminating all servers and user access across India, starting from Oct 30, 2020.

The game was banned by the Indian government under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2009. PUBG Mobile India said it will be withdrawing its partnership with Tencent, and all publishing rights for the mobile game would be reinstated with PUBG Corporation.

The move to part ways with Tencent paves the way for PUBG Mobile to be compliant with laws and regulations put forward by the Ministry of Electronics and Information & Technology. Tencent, a Chinese multinational technology conglomerate holding company, held the distribution rights for PUBG Mobile in India prior to the ban.

PUBG Mobile India states that protecting user data has always been a top priority for them and that all users’ gameplay information is processed in a transparent manner as disclosed in their privacy policy.

This u-turn of events brings a ray of hope to Indian PUBG Mobile gamers as it would mean that the game will no longer have any ‘Chinese’ ties whatsoever, making it legal for the game to be re-instated on the app store.

It seems PUBG Corporation’s claim to “work with the Indian government” is being taken seriously by the company and a recent job posting for a Corporate Development Division Manager (for running operations in India) on LinkedIn shows the company is trying to do just that.

Although PUBG Corporation is trying to re-capture the mobile gaming scene once again, the Indian government’s stance on the ban remains unchanged at the time of writing this report. Only time will tell how things will pan out for the mobile game but the recent turn of events does indicate that things are going in the right direction for PUBG Mobile to return to your phone screens once again.

Indian PUBG Mobile players have been playing the game with the help of VPN apps but it meant that they had to make do with high ping gameplays which is not the ideal gaming experience. Not to mention the data security issues with using a free VPN app is always a sketchy affair. If PUBG Corporation’s attempt to reconcile with the Indian government is successful, we can all heave a sigh of relief and get back to skirmishes in Erangel just like old times.

So, is it time to get our thumbs ready for a quick Kar-98K headshot? Maybe, but things are definitely about to go crazy for the Indian PUBG Mobile players. There are still major questions like when will we get to see the Indian version of the mobile game? How long will the server be out? etc.

The truth is we don’t know yet. All we can do for now is follow how things develop and wait for an official comment. But as things stand, it is highly possible that PUBG Mobile could be back sooner than later. Watch this space for more PUBG Mobile related news.
