Kohima, Oct. 6 (EMN): A breakthrough to the ad hoc teachers’ service regularisation issue might just be around the corner as members of the All Nagaland Ad hoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG) 2015 batch are “expecting something fruitful” to happen soon.
The ad hoc teachers have been staging a peaceful sit-in since September 26 and a week of hunger strike until Thursday, in the state capital against non-regularisation of their services.
Their last meeting with the commissioner and secretary of School Education proved futile as the members unanimously rejected the former’s offer of setting up a High Powered Committee to take up the matter. Subsequently, the house wrote to the chief minister and sought his intervention to solve the issue. Yet, the indifferent attitude of the government compelled more members to join the hunger strike on Wednesday.
However, the ANATG-2015 members are now “expecting something fruitful” on Friday, October 7)”, it was informed.
“We have full faith in our government that they will not let their employees suffer for such a long time”, ANATG-2015 member, Bendangtemsu Ozukum, told Eastern Mirror on Thursday.
He further added that the 1166 members are “very hopeful that the government will not let us go back empty handed”.
Meanwhile, a male teacher who was on a hunger strike was hospitalised on Thursday before being sent home after necessary medical check-up.
A total of eight teachers were hospitalised over one week due to the ongoing hunger strike.
The All Nagaland Graduate Teachers’ Forum (ANGTF) has extended support to the All Nagaland Ad hoc Teachers’ Group (ANATG)-2015 batch for their demand of service regularisation.
While extending solidarity to their cause, the forum expressed sympathy towards the agitating teachers comprising nursing and pregnant mothers who are observing hunger strike.
It appealed to the authority to exert all possible effort to resolve the pending issue before the situation goes ‘out of control’.
