Prospects of spices cultivation in Nagaland underway at SASRD

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 21: Two-day workshop on ‘Prospects and Promotion of Spices Cultivation in Nagaland’, is underway at SASRD, Medziphema campus, being organised by AICRP on Spices, Nagaland Centre, department of Horticulture, NU: SASRD, Medziphema and sponsored by ICAR-IISR, Kozhikode, Calicut. The inaugural programme was held on November 21, with Professor R.C Gupta, dean of NU: SASRD as chief guest.A brief highlight on the workshop was given by Dr. C.S Maiti, co-ordinator and project in-charge, AICRPS, Nagaland centre and Dr. P. Rajeev, Nodal officer-NER, IISR, Calicut. The programme was chaired by Dr. Pauline Alila, HOD, department of Horticulture, NU: SASRD, while vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. S.P.Kanaujia, associate professor, department of Horticulture, NU: SASRD. A total of 59 participants registered for the workshop including 17 officials from department ofAgriculture, LRD, Horticulture and Women Resource Development and institutions of Spices Board and KVK, 2 SHGs and 40 farmers from Dimapur and Peren. The technical sessions of the workshop will be covering the management (production, pest and disease), processing and value addition of ginger, turmeric and black pepper. Four principal scientists namely; Dr. V.Srinivasan, Dr. C.N. Biju, Dr. K. Kandiannan and Dr. P. Rajeev from IISR, Kozhikodeand Calicut will be the resource persons.
