Proper 5 win 1st WSSA open futsal tournament

Winners of the first Open Futsal Tournament organised by the Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA) along with WSSA and match officials.

Dimapur, Sep. 25 (EMN): The first Open Futsal Tournament organised by the Western Sumi Sports Association (WSSA) was held on September 22 and 23 at Junkyard Turf, Padumpukhuri.

WSSA in an update informed that Proper 5 emerged champions and won cash prize of INR 1 lakh while Native Feathers who won the second position bagged INR 50,000. The best goalkeeper award went to Khaozang of Proper 5 who won cash prize of INR 5,000.

Founder & Chair YouthNet, Hekani Jakhalu, who graced the valedictory programme as special guest, in her address said sports help build leadership skills in terms of organising capacities, team work, better communication skills and focus, which are critical in capacity building of a child. She also expressed optimism that with the coach training programme under WSSA by friend Bhaichung Bhutia and Renedy, western Sumis have bright prospects in the field of football.

President, WSSA, Vikuto Zhimo, said the main objective of the tournament was to instill hope, foster positive mindset and connect with the western Sumi community, especially through sports. He also thanked the special guest for making Bhaichung Bhutia and Renedy Singh, both former Indian football captains, the advisors of WSSA. This, Zhimo said, will be source of encouragement for grassroots football in Western Sumi Area and Zunheboto district.

Mughato Sumi, sports director WSSA/DDFA, expressed gratitude to Hekani Jakhalu and said her contribution to western Sumi sports was beyond expectations.

Isawoto Zhimomi, head GB and advisor WSSA, said with the vision plan of Under -14 category  for the Western Sumis  initiated by Jakhalu, , the young footballers from western Sumi areas will get the opportunity to bring laurels to the Sumi community and Nagas in general.

In the semi-final matches, head GB and president BJP dimapur district, Tokuho Suhoi Neho and former NSF president, Ninoto Awomi , were the match patron and the guest respectively, it stated.
