DIMAPUR — In a major boost for the Nagaland Congress party, prominent leaders belonging to various political parties from Peren district led by three Independent candidates in the recently held Peren Town Council polls joined the Congress party during a programme held at Congress Bhavan in Jalukie town on Saturday.
The leaders have officially joined Congress party in the presence of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP, S Supongmeren Jamir; NPCC vice president, Capt. GK Zhimomi; NPCC general secretary, Rosy Thompson; NSUI president, X Chophika Sumi; councilors of Jalukie Town Council namely Namdatbou, Ngimtalakpe, and a host of party functionaries from Peren district.
Speaking at the reception programme, the MP thanked and welcomed the new entrants on behalf of the Indian National Congress (INC) and exhorted them to work hand in hand in the service of the people of Nagaland and the nation in general under the progressive and inclusive guiding principles of the Congress party.
He also underscored the responsibilities and importance of the opposition’s role in a representational democracy and challenged the gathering to steadfastly advocate for the rights of the common people of the state.
The Independent candidates of the Peren Town Council, who joined the Congress party included Kezaiyilung Thou, Lungsidaile Meru and Kenlunpeule Hegwang.
The NPF members included Tohei Nda, Insilung Kenn, Namga Ndang and Heidising Chamlak.
A retired director of Ntangki National Park, Heuneilung, has also joined the Congress party.
The NDPP members who joined the Congress party are Namwangdaule, Leiseu, Namheile, Ilia, Kungausape, Lala and Nambe Thou.
