Professor Jagdish Mukhi will be the new governor of Manipur

Our Correspondent Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): Professor Jagdish Mukhi will be sworn in as new governor of Manipur on May 3 as the present Governor Dr Najma Heptulla is taking leave for four weeks. An official sources in Imphal has informed about the change of governor on Tuesday. The swearing in ceremony will be held at the Durbar hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal at 3:00 pm. Sources said that Mukhi who is currently the Governor of Assam will take additional charge as Manipur governor during Dr Najma Heptulla’s leave. Mukhi will be the sixth governor of Manipur since May 2014, when NDA came to power. It may be mentioned that Prof Jagdish Mukhi, a veteran leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and former Member Legislative Assembly from Janak Puri assembly constituency in Delhi has sworn in as the Assam Governor on Oct. 10 2017. In his previous assignment, Mukhi served as the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He succeeded Banwarilal Purohit who has been appointed as the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Mukhi had also served as Minister of Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation, and Higher Education in the Delhi government. He is credited with working extensively for the welfare of citizens of Delhi apart from holding the charge of opposition leader in Delhi assembly during 1998-2008. He had been awarded the Best Finance and Planning Minister by the then Planning Minister Pranab Mukherjee in 1997 and was also awarded as the best MLA by the then Lok Sabha Speaker Sh Manohar Joshi in 2002.
