IMPHAL — Products worth INR 1,36,390 made by residents at relief camps were sold during a sales day event held in Thoubal, 25 km south of Imphal city on Tuesday.

The products included hand knitted woollen items, candles, soft toys and others.

The Thoubal district administration has been initiating various income generating programmes for the inmates at relief camps by organising training on candle-making, incense-stick making and kauna craft products among others, says the deputy commissioner of Thoubal, A Subhash.

Three relief camps namely Kodompokpi Sports Complex, Rice Research Centre, Khangabok-Wangbal and Lamding Higher Secondary School housed around 1,270 inmates, who were displaced from Tengnoupal, Moreh, Churachandpur, Serou,Sungu and other areas.

The DC has thanked Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Thoubal, for their valuable contribution by providing training.

With regard to the kouna products made by the inmates, the Manipur State Livelihood Mission (MSRLM) provided invaluable techniques like beautification training, thereby increasing the aesthetic value of all the kouna products.

The DC stated that the district administration initially provided raw materials to the inmates and helped in marketing the end products and has sold products to the value of around INR 3.2 lakh.

At JNIMS too, during the continuing medical education programme- candles, kouna products and others were sold.

The DC along with the director of Trade, Commerce and Industries, Yumnam Robita Devi, visited all the stalls and interacted with the inmate.

After the stall inspection, Robita informed that the inmates would be invited to the Khadi Mela from the department side. She also advised them to register themselves so that they could apply for various benefits provided by the government.
