- DIMAPUR — The
Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR)
conducted a comprehensive statutory inspection from March 17 to the19th, across
key sections including Dhekiajuli Road – North Lakhimpur, Rangapara North–
Dekargaon, Balipara – Bhalukpongand Harmuti – Naharlagun.
- In a press release, the NFR stated that the inspection
covered a total of 264.35 Route Kilometres (RKM) and 338.3 Track Kilometres
(TKM), underscoring NFR's commitment to reduce carbon emissions and improve
energy efficiency.
- Subsequently, an electric locomotive trial was successfully
executed at the maximum permissible sectional speed, reaffirming the
infrastructure's readiness for enhanced operations.
- Key features of the project include robust power supply
installations, ensuring a steady energy source from the traction substations at
Balipara and Gohpur.
- “Safety enhancements have also been incorporated, with 130
level crossings now equipped with height gauges to protect the overhead equipment
(OHE). Additionally, signalling and telecommunication systems have been
upgraded, with all stations and switching stations now featuring TPC
communication systems. Maintenance facilities have been strengthened with two
OHE-cum- PSI maintenance depots and a Tower Wagon Shed at VishwanathCharali,
further ensuring smooth operations,” the release stated.
- As of March 20, the NFR has electrified 3360 route
kilometres (RKM), accounting for over 79% of its total network of 4260 RKMs.
- It went to inform that the significant progress aligns with
Indian Railway’s mission to achieve 100% electrification and net-zero carbon
emissions. The electrification efforts span various divisions with Assam
leading at 1806 RKMs followed by West Bengal 936 RKMs, Bihar 319 RKMs, Tripura
269 RKMs and Arunachal Pradesh 11 RKMs. Previous FY 2023-24, 921 RKM
electrified and Current FY 2024-25 (upto March 20), 777 RKM electrified.
- “This electrification initiative is expected to bring
numerous benefits, including reduced dependence on fossil fuels, lower carbon
emissions and improved efficiency in train operations.
- “By implementing these enhancements, the Northeast Frontier
Railway takes a major step toward modern, sustainable railway transportation,
reinforcing its commitment to a greener and more efficient rail network,” the
release added.
