Princess Sirindhorn moots Thai-Naga exchange progs

Correspondent KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 26 HER Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand today asserted that the Thai and Nagas would have various exchange programmes, specially in education and agriculture sectors. After carefully listening to the presentations on the agriculture products and also the educational system in the State during an interactive session with Nagaland University faculty and state government officials at NU Meriema campus this evening, the Princess said, “It should not be problem to conduct study tour for interest students to come to Thailand and exchange their ideas”. She also suggested for high school level students exposure exchange programme. Opining that even some scholarship can be extended, the Princess said: After returning back, we can invite group of people from Nagaland to come, see and choose what can be done. On the possibility of skill development activities and course in the agricultural sector, she said “we can send some of officials to have proper knowledge about the agricultural feature in the State”. She was interested in oil seeds maintaining that Thailand is working on cosmetics and oil products. “We can work together in whatever possible manner and also have exchange programmes,” she said. On arrival at the NU Meriema Campus, HRH, accompanied by the Thai Ambassador and her entourage, was received by Minister for School Education CM Chang, Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education and SCERT Deo Nukhu, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Lanunungsang and Prof. N Venuh. Prof. Lanunungsang briefed the Princess on Nagaland University, Prof. Akali Sema explained on ‘Agricultural system in Nagaland and Agricultural Education in Nagaland University”, Commissioner & Secretary, School Education, Imkonglemba Ao dwelled on the ‘Education system in Nagaland’ while Commissioner & Secretary FP Solo talked about the Higher Education system in Nagaland. After a brief discussion with the NU faculty and state government officials, the Princess witnessed the classroom teaching of NU and also interaction with students.
