A WHITE dress worn by Britain’s Princess Diana has sold for £100,000.The late princess – who died in a car crash in 1997 – famously wore the “fairytale” gown, which was designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, at the James Bond premiere, ‘The Living Daylights’, in London’s Leicester Square in 1987.
Diana’s dress was expected to make between £50,000 and £80,000 but it was sold by Kerry Taylor Auctions in London for £102,000 and is said to have been bought by a museum based overseas, despite interest from the US.
Kerry said: “This is the 11th Princess Diana dress that I have sold this year, and I feel very lucky and privileged.
“It is a beautiful dress, worn by a beautiful woman, and deserved to do well.”
Diana fell in love with the size 10 garment after first seeing it at a Red Cross benefit fashion show in 1986 and she went on to wear it several times.
The late Princess of Wales also donned the dress at the Royal Opera House to watch a performance of ‘Ivan The Terrible’ by the Bolshoi Ballet in July 1986 and in the same month she wore it at the German ambassador’s residence in London.
