Kohima, May 16 (EMN): Priests of Kohima diocese have created a fund to help Covid-19 affected people by sacrificing the subsidy that is usually received through Prim.
"The money has been pooled together and entrusted to Fr. Charles, director of Development Association of Nagaland (Dan), the social service wing of the Diocese of Kohima, located at the Carmel Campus, 4th Mile Dimapur," stated Rev. Fr. Victor Renthungo, bishop's secretary through a press release on Sunday.
He informed that those who need help by way of dry ration, food items, medical support and other emergency relief may approach Dan office by calling phone nos. 9436009529, 8732059971 and 03862-242799.
Report also stated that the bishop of Kohima, Rev. Dr. James Thoppil, has assured all possible assistance from the Catholic church to the government and district authorities during this time of crisis, especially by making available the infrastructural facilities especially the schools in every district in Nagaland for quarantining people, if necessary.
Reliable sources informed Eastern Mirror that the campaign was "a collective effort from the priests of Kohima diocese," adding that the fund would be dispensed from Dan's office.
It stated that Catholic church has been actively involved even during the last year's pandemic induced lockdown and had contributed financially, spiritually, materially through church personnel while its institutions used as quarantine centres.
