MMC revises price of vegetables

EMN
Dimapur, July 23

Unlike Dimapur and Kohima where prices of convenience products and essential commodities continue to run amok unchecked and illegal, Mokokchung Municipal Council appears to be the only municipality in the state that regularly regulates the prices of essential commodities in the town.
Yet again, the municipal organization of Mokokchung has issued a set of revised price rates for various vegetables. It is true that there have been a few occasions when the Dimapur and Kohima authorities have also issued notices regulating prices of some items. However, they are far and few in between themselves over the years.
On the other hand, the Mokokchung Municipal Council seems to be actively engaged with the market concerns of the town’s citizens. The town’s authorities are the only governing agencies that constantly issue various regulations and keeps checks on perishable goods, convenience products and kitchen essentials.
At this time, the municipality appears frequently engaged in market regulation; it frequently issues public notices through the media regulating the price of convenience products and essential commodities ranging from vegetables to meat to fish. In contrast, citizens of Dimapur particularly continue to reel at the current prices of, say for instance, vegetables. In Dimapur, the price of a particular vegetable most likely varies with the price of the same item being sold in some other market area in the town. For instance, the price of a tomato at Rs. 45 at a location in the city is most likely being sold at around Rs. 50-55 in another.
In the absence of a price regulation authority in commercial Dimapur, the economic grievances of its citizens’ are many: unscrupulous businessmen and traders, not forgetting public transport services such as the infamous auto rickshaws in Dimapur, continue to hold the market–and citizens’ money–to whims and exploitation.
The focus on citizens’ market engagements could be the reason why the Mokokchung town’s market remains streamlined and dependable.

Tomatoes figure in revised vegetable prices

Once again, the Mokokchung administration has revised the prices of three more vegetables, namely the tomato, the cabbage, and the carrot.
The administrator of Mokokchung Municipal Council, Bendanglila, informed about the changes in press release issued to the press on July 23.
The revised price comes into immediate effect in Mokokchung town, the order from the municipal authority stated.
1. Tomato – Rs. 40 per kilogram
2. Cabbage – Rs. 35 per kilogram
3. Carrot – Rs. 80 per kilogram
Citizens may note here that as recently as two months ago, Mokokchung Municipal Council had issued in quick successions various notices about revisions or price reduction of meat and fish as well. The same engagement was being observed during the previous year too.
