Pressures mount to declare Shamator district by Dec. 31
Dimapur, Dec. 28 (EMN): Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), an apex students’ organisation of Yimkhiung tribe, has expressed disappointment with the state government of the day allegedly for not upholding the commitment and assurance given to the people of Yimkhiung tribe pertaining to upgradation of Shamator ADC headquarters to a full-fledged district headquarters.
“The state government must fulfill gentlemen’s agreement both in letter and in spirit and declare Shamator to a full-fledged district unconditionally as agreed,” stated YAA vice president, K Thsantong Yimkhiung, and the general secretary, Donan S Yimkhiung.
It has termed the continuous deceitful actions against the Yimkhiung people by the government as ‘highly objectionable, intolerable and needs highest condemnation.’
Claiming that Yimkhiung people are a peace-loving citizen and known for honesty and humility, it stated that the people had proved those virtues during the recently concluded by-election to 58 Shamator-Chessore assembly constituency by giving unopposed NDPP candidate as sought by the government and in return for the assurance to upgrade Shamator ADC headquarters to a full-fledged district headquarters. It, however, expressed disappointment at the inaction of the government in fulfilling the long-felt aspiration of the Yimkhiung tribe.
In the light of above stated circumstances, YAA has demanded the state government to honour and uphold the gentlemen’s agreement by upgrading Shamator to a full-fledged district headquarters on or before December 31 as desired by the Yimkhiung tribe.
In the event of failing to deliver the state government’s commitment on or before December 31, YAA stated that it would fully support the directive of Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC). It further urged all the federating units to remain physically and mentally prepared for any sort of democratic protest until justice is delivered.
In a similar statement, Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) recalled the assurance made by the chief minister in the presence of his cabinet colleagues and senior party leaders to upgrade Shamator ADC headquarters unconditionally to a full-fledged district if an NDPP candidate was elected unopposed.
In the event of failing to fulfill the aspirations of the Yimkhiungrü and the chief minister’s assurance before December 31, YTC and its frontal organisations directed all the NDPP party workers including the incumbent MLA of 58 AC to resign en-masse latest by January 5, 2022.
In another statement, former candidates of 58 Shamator-Chessore namely R Tohanba, K Yimso, W Akhum, H Mukam, L Thronghokiu, Dokiu Kecham, and Rukkiumong have appealed to the state chief minister to uphold the gentleman’s promise by way of issuing proper notification declaring the upgradation of ADC Shamator into the full-fledged district headquarters before December 31.
