[dropcap]I[/dropcap]n the next one week if the present political quagmire is not resolved rest assured that President’s rule will be imposed in Nagaland. In such eventuality the people of Nagaland will be seen preparing for the assembly elections. We have just witnessed such happening in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to the prolonged political impasse the Centre has no other option but to intervene in that state. Now, who is benefitting from this political wrangling in the state? The Nagas are the worst hit. We will be wasting our time and energy to elect our new representatives in case the polls are to be held again. Last year’s exhaustion is yet to get over. Also note that every time the elections are held educational atmosphere is affected badly. Maximum degree of law and order will be witnessed too. The relations between people will also be affected. Ultimately, the real nightmare begins when political parties and leaders adverse to the cause of the Nagas are voted to power.
Today, it appears that we are heading for such situation for it is already more than a week now the political turmoil continues to persist in the state. Every passing day more ruckuses have been kicked up rather than settling. The people are silently observing the development. However, shortly they may not be no longer mute audience. This column would like to caution these politicians not to ignore the sentiment of the people. It will be a costly affair for every one of us. So, before things go out of place the political leaders need to show certain degree of restrain and keep aside vested interests for the good of all.
Note that ours is a case different from other states. We are engaging in political dialogue with the government of India. Our case is yet to be resolved. We need a party that suits our condition and situation.
