Indian President Kovind undergoes surgery

Dimapur, March 30 (EMN): The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, underwent cardiac bypass surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi on Monday morning, updated President’s Secretariat through a press release.

“Surgery was successful. He is stable and is being closely monitored by a team of Senior Doctors,” read the press release.

The Indian president, 75, was admitted to the Army Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital in New Delhi on Friday morning after complaining of chest discomfort before he was shifted to AIIMS the next day.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took to Twitter to express his happiness about the president’s successful surgery. “May each day bring him renewed strength. My good wishes and prayers for his speedy recovery,” he wrote.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also tweeted: “I congratulate the team of doctors for the successful operation. Spoke to Director AIIMS to enquire about Rashtrapatiji’s health. Praying for his well-being and speedy recovery.”
