Preparations underway for 52nd ASA Wrestling Meet

Preparations underway at Khouchiezhie in Kohima for the 52nd Angami Sports Association Wrestling Meet 2024.

DIMAPUR — Preparations are underway for the 52nd Angami Sports Association (ASA) Wrestling Meet 2024, scheduled to be held on March 16 at the Khouchiezhie (local ground) in Kohima.

The ground management team led by the Angami Catholic Union (ACU) is on war footing to prepare the stage for thousands to witness the indigenous sport, according to a press release.

The inaugural ceremony is scheduled to commence at 9 am, with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio attending as the chief guest and MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso as the guest of honour.

The champion will receive a cash prize of INR 2,50,000, while those securing the second, third, and fourth positions will be awarded INR 1,70,000, INR 1,30,000, and INR 1,00,000, respectively.

Furthermore, quarter-finalists will each receive INR 20,000, and individuals demonstrating exceptional tactics will be honoured with INR 15,000. Participants will also be acknowledged with a sum of INR 2,500.

Four units—the Northern Angami Sports Association (NASA), Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA), Western Angami Youth Organisation (WAYO), and Chakhro Youth Organisation (CYO)—will compete in this year’s championship, with a total of 60 skilled wrestlers participating.

Subsequently, eighteen exceptional wrestlers would be selected to represent the Angami community at the upcoming Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) .

The ACU anticipates a turnout of approximately 16,000 spectators. Ticket rates have been categorised as follows: Donor – INR 2,000; Balcony – INR 500; Chair A – INR 500; Chair B – INR 200; and Chair C – INR 100.
