Preparations for KAAC MAC oath taking in progress

Diphu, June 18 (EMN): Preparations for the oath-taking ceremony of the 26 elected Members of Autonomous Council (MAC) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), scheduled on June 20 is in progress at Karbi People’s Hall, Taralangso.

Governor of Assam Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, being the guardian of the 6th Schedule, will administer the oath of office to all the 26 elected MACs in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other state ministers.

Mukul Kumar Saikia, Principal Secretary, KAAC informed that from the conduct of election to oath-taking, the DC is authorised by the governor but the KAAC is also assisting in the making of pandals and other arrangements.  

The principal secretary also informed that the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the other two 6th Scheduled Autonomous Councils of Dima Hasao and Bodo Territorial Region are invited. All the state ministers are also being invited, he added.

The oath-taking ceremony will be from 12 noon, Saikia informed.

When asked, D Uphing Maslai MAC said that this is the first time in the history of KAAC that the governor is coming to administer the oath of office to the elected MACs and a great occasion for all.

“It is due to the initiative taken up by the able leadership of Tuliram Ronghang. It is a history for the KAAC and the people of Karbi Anglong”, Maslai said.
