Precautionary power shutdown amidst strong winds in Dimapur
IMD forecasts more rainfall, thunderstorms in NE
DIMAPUR — Power supply in Dimapur was suspended for over eight hours due to gusty winds that began on Monday morning.
The suspension of power supply was implemented as a precautionary measure to avert any untoward incident or damage, an officer from the Power department said.
Furthermore, it was reported that a fault was detected at the 11 kV ADC feeder when the power department attempted to restore power supply in the evening.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), on Monday, hailstorms were recorded at isolated places in Assam, Meghalaya, and Sikkim, while thunder squalls occurred at isolated locations in Assam.
Additionally, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds occurred in most places in Assam and Meghalaya and at many places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Isolated heavy rainfall was observed over Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and Meghalaya.
The IMD has also forecast enhanced rainfall and thunderstorm activity over north-east India until April 7.
Isolated heavy rainfall is expected in Assam and Meghalaya on April 2, and on April 2 and the 4th in Nagaland. Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is anticipated over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura until April 5, it said.
