- DIMAPUR — Dimapur felt the onset of summer as
the commercial city experienced power outages for over seven hours for two
consecutive days, following gusty winds that led to trees and branches falling,
damaging electric poles and low-tension (LT) lines at various locations.
- As per sources from the Power department, it sometimes
resorts to power cuts, as strong winds can cause irreparable damage; strong
winds can blow down trees or branches onto power lines, causing damage and
outages, or knock down power lines.
- These power cuts, sources clarified, are taken as a
precautionary measure to avoid major damage.
- However, on Wednesday and Thursday, gusty winds caused
damage to power lines and electric poles, disrupting power supply in many parts
of Dimapur. Power transmission and distribution were affected, and it was also
reported that the Burma Camp town feeder cable burst due to an “earthing
fault”.
- Department officials and linemen were on duty since
Wednesday, and restoration work was in progress wherever possible. However,
power supply was yet to be restored to most of the locations by the time of
filing this report.
