DIMAPUR — The Power department has informed electricity consumers under Kohima Electrical Division that an extensive disconnection drive will commence from January 10, to address non-payment of electricity bills for all categories of consumers.

The drive will encompass all consumers including pre-paid consumers, government offices, and SPM villages as well as those using illegal and unauthorised connections, the Kohima division’s executive engineer informed in a press release.

In this connection, the department requested consumers under Kohima Electrical Division to clear their electricity bills at the earliest in order to avoid inconvenience

Further, public are warned not to resort to illegal or unauthorised usage of electricity in the form of hooking, tampering of energy meter, by-passing of energy meter etc., as it is a serious offence and shall invite penalty in the form of fine or imprisonment or both as per Indian Electricity Act, 2003.

“Consumers are also requested to read the information printed at the back of the Electricity Bill and to note that ‘Non-receipt of bill does not mitigate liability for payment of charges for energy consumed. The consumer should therefore in his own interest enquire from the location office of bill not received,’” it added.

In case of any discrepancies and any other grievances in the bill, consumers have been requested to visit the offices of their respective SDO  No. I, II and III, for clarification, correction and rectification.

All electricity consumers including pre-paid metered consumers are also advised to utilise the department’s portal (https://dopn.gov.in) to make bill payment or recharge, it added.
