Power dept. seeks DPDBs’ help with vegetation clearance
DIMAPUR — The office of the engineer-in-chief, Department of Power, has informed that May and October have been designated as “vegetation clearance months,” during which focused jungle cutting is carried out along the power corridors.
In a press release, the office lauded DPDB Mokokchung, chaired by the Advisor for Water Resources, for unanimously deciding to support the Power department and participate in vegetation clearance.
It mentioned that the decision was made during the DPDB meeting held on May 21, entrusting sub-divisional and circle administrative officials to immediately convene consultative meetings with village council members within their jurisdictions, along with Power department officials, to strategise manpower mobilisation.
Noting that most prolonged power outages, particularly in villages, are caused by trees and bamboo falling on transmission and distribution lines, the release stated that keeping the power lines clear of such vegetation will result in a significant improvement in the stability of the power supply.
The department also requested DPDBs of other districts to extend similar initiatives and to cooperate with and assist the department in the larger interest of providing a stable power supply to the citizens of the state.
