DIMAPUR — The Poultry Union Dimapur (PUD) has lifted the indefinite ban on the import of poultry from Assam to Nagaland, with effect from Friday.

The decision to lift the ban came after Thursday’s meeting with the Dimapur district administration where the latter reportedly assured the union that it was actively pursuing the “matter at hand.”

General secretary of PUD, Keyigwalunga, told media persons that the union also decided to lift the ban taking into consideration the hardship faced by the general public and the statement made by Ranjin Teron, the person behind the alleged poultry syndicate in Assam.

Keyigwalunga however maintained that the ban will resume if the “syndicate” issue resurfaces in the future.

The PUD also appealed to the Advisor of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Kazheto Kinimi, to review his formal request directed to the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KAAC, with regard to the scrutiny of livestock documentation, ensuring that livestock shipments meet the criteria for safe consumption.

While recognising the intention of the adviser, Keyigwalunga raised apprehensions about certain syndicate operators in Karbi Anglong, who were exploiting the situation to advance their operations.

The ADC Dimapur, Mhalo Humtsoe, told Eastern Mirror that a letter addressing the PUD concerns was dispatched to the DC of Karbi Anglong on August 8 and that the response from the DC is awaited.

Humtsoe conveyed that the Dimapur administration is actively working on resolving the issue with their counterparts in Karbi Anglong.
