Many people thinks that Postal Life Insurance (PLI) is a new Insurance due to lack of publicity.But it is one of the oldest insurance scheme since 1884, according a senior postal department official.
The postal department official was speaking as a resource person during the day long postal mela on PLI and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) at the multipurpose hall of Modern College, Porompat in Imphal east district.Highlighting the salient features of the Postal insurances, the official further added that postal insurance offers special products designed for rural population who have permanent residence beyond municipality area. This insurance, he added, known as RPLI is a low premium that comes with high bonus suitable for farmers and their spouses, children, shopkeeper and traders etc.
Adhyaksha P Bimola Devi of Imphal east Zilla Parishad, Director Postal service Imphal T Minthang and Principal of Modern College Dr K Biren Singh attended the inaugural function of the postal mela held under the aegis of Manipur Postal Department Imphal as president, chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Stressing on the importantance of spreading the information to increase the awareness level about postal insurance by holding such melas, Adhyaksha Bimola Devi while speaking at the function, requested to hold such programs in different parts of the state. More people will be able to access the benefits of postal insurance if the the benefits provided by such schemes is made aware among the general population, she felt.
Principal of Modern College Dr Biren also highlighted the importance of creating a saving habit through insurances will bring a bright future. He added till now many people are less aware about the future benefits of insurance schemes. Director postal service Imphal Minthang in hid short speech said that most of the postal insurance offers a lot of low premium that have high bonus comparing with other insurance companies. He also said that PLI is totally owned by government and the policy offers by postal insurance is risk free.
