Meat dealers...and meat salesmen told to get hygienic
Kohima, April 5 (EMN): Due to a reported increase in the cost of livestock from outside Nagaland, the price of pork in Kohima town has been enhanced to Rs 200 per kilogram and beef to Rs 180 per kilogram, as has been enhanced in Dimapur too.
The decision to this effect was taken during a meeting that was conducted between Kohima Municipal Council officials, veterinary doctors and representative of the Kohima Town Butchers’ Union on April 3.
Informing about the change in a notification, the administrator of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), Kovi Meyase, cautioned that any price above the stated rate shall be treated as unauthorised and liable to for penalty form the authority.
Meat dealers and managements of meat outlets have been directed to give a facelift to their shops; they are to compulsorily cover tables with vinyl carpets or tiles, mandatory use digital weighing machines; aprons are to be used by the salesmen. They are directed to sell only hygienic, quality meat.
It also informed the meat dealers and salesmen are to improve in ‘personal hygiene’ and etiquette.
To further streamline the meat outlets, the municipal authority has informed that it will now be mandatory for them to obtain registration from the Kohima Town Butchers’ Union (KTBU), prior to application for a “Butchery License” from the Kohima Municipal Council; such licenses shall not be issued by the KMC without the registration receipt from the KTBU.
Shops operating without valid license or permit from the KMC shall be treated as illegal. Penalty shall be initiated without any notice as deemed fit, the authorities informed.
It further informed that an amount of Rs 5, 000 shall be deposited as a security deposit. It shall be refundable on fulfilment of the terms and conditions, while non-adherence will entail forfeiture of the security deposit and other penalties and fines as deemed appropriate.
This resolution, it said will come into effect from May 1, 2017.
