Poor infrastructure plagues Dimapur government schools

Dimapur, July 10 (EMN): The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) President, Moayanger Jamir, on Sunday said the ‘pathetic condition’ of the infrastructure of government schools was one of their primary observations during the inspection of 37 schools in Dimapur, which included primary, middle and high schools.

Jamir informed Eastern Mirror that unlike earlier days, practice of proxy teaching had reduced but still persists. He also added that during the surprise inspection, they noticed around nine to 10 proxy teachers, however some of the teachers were on leave with genuine reasons and had been replaced with substitute teachers.

Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has earlier expressed disappointment and concern over “innumerable unfair and imbalanced practices prevail in the schools and the district education office” in a press statement.

An official of the DNSU had also informed this newspaper that it started conducting a surprise inspection of all government schools in Dimapur in February this year before completing it this month.

The DNSU president further informed that out of 37 schools inspected, government primary school (GPS) ward -3 at Landmark colony was the “worst” as the school was a kutcha house consisting of only  two rooms, one for teachers and the other for students.

Regarding this issue, Jamir informed that the concerned authority had already received the sanction to build the school. However, the amount was used for purchasing the plot of land for the school.

The president also informed that they would summit a representation to the Principal Director of School Education next week and if the government does not pay heed to their appeal, they would democratically confront the government.

The president informed that some of the issues they would raise and appeal to the competent authority would be to install biometric attendance device in all the government schools and DEO offices and make it compulsory.

The DNSU would also appeal to look into the issues regarding the lack of Math and Science, impose no work no pay and to implement PM-POSHAN or mid-day meal scheme in all the schools.
