Dimapur, Dec. 27: The Returning Officer of Medziphema, Dimapur, has issued notifications for the electoral programme to conducting the general elections to the Medziphema Town Council. The notification was received here on Tuesday.
According to the notification, the period for filing nomination begins on January 3 while the scrutiny of nomination papers has been scheduled for January 10. The polls will be on February 1. Counting and declaration of results is on the 4th of February.
“The Electoral Rolls for the ensuing election to the Medziphema Town Council have been prepared with reference to 01-01-2016 as the qualifying date and finally published on 29-11-2016 and 20-12-2016,” the notification stated. Copies of the Electoral Roll can be obtained from the office of the ADC & Returning Officer of the Medziphema Town Council.
Concerning the identification of voters, the establishment stated that in order to safeguard against “personation” under Rule 54 of the Nagaland Municipal Rule, 2003, the State Election Commission has decided that compulsory identification of the voters will be made in the coming general elections to the municipal council and town councils in the state. The State Election Commission will be issuing separate instructions in this regard, the notice stated.
Further, with the announcement of the Election Programme, the Model Code of Conduct for guidance of all the political parties and candidates will come into operation with immediate effect within the Medziphema Town Council areas going to poll.
“This will be applicable to all candidates, political parties and state government machinery under Medziphema Town Council,” the notification added.
