Polio immunisation programme launched across Manipur

Imphal, Jan. 29: The first round of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme was recently carried out all over the state of Manipur on Sunday.The formal launching function of the Polio Immunization Programme was held at the state family welfare department premises in Imphal with its Director Dr K Rajo and his subordinate staffs and nurses and asha workers. Children in the age group of 0-5 were administered a dose of oral polio vaccine. “We are targeting to administer more than 3 lakh children,” Family welfare sources said. “Those who could not be administered the vaccine will be given the next two days by visiting door to doors.” Around 3,58,474 children are targeted to be administered polio vaccine this first round. The state on Sunday opened 3585 booths in addition to the health care centres by using about 14,341 health and ASHAs workers besides a good number of health supervisors. The Imphal West district family welfare department team also organised Polio Immunization Programme at RD Wing Lamphel with a target to give vaccine to 57,000 children. Similarly concerned officials of Imphal East district also organised a vaccination programme. Deputy Commissioner Thoubal district M Joy also opened Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Programme at Chief Medical Officer’s office. Concerned officials of Tamenglong, Noney,Tengnoupal districts and family welfare officials of the Moreh town also organised Pulse Polio Immunization Programme. There are also reports of organizing the same in other parts of the state on Sunday. India is currently at the stage of being declared polio free as no fresh case has been reported in the last 3 years.
