AS per the directive of the Supreme Court, the State government has constituted the State Security Commission to lay down broad policy guidelines and directions for the performance of preventive tasks and service-oriented functions by the police.
The Commission headed by Home Minister G Kaito as the chairman comprises CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi, retired Judge of Gauhati High Court Justice Zelre Angami, ex-MP Imchalemba, former CPO president Yiesonu, Chief Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir and Rev. Dr. Pongsing Konyak as members and DGP B Kezo as member secretary, according to an official release issued by Home Commissioner Temjen Toy today.
Besides evaluating the performance of the State Police every year, and presenting a report to the State Legislature, the Commission will function as a forum of appeal for disposing of representations from any police officer of the rank of SP and above, regarding his being subjected to illegal or irregular orders in the performance of his duties.
It will also function as a forum of appeal for disposing of representations from police officers regarding promotion to the rank of SP and above and will further generally keep in review the functioning of the police in the State.
The Commission held its first sitting under the chairmanship of Home Minister G Kaito on July 24 and deliberated on the functioning of the police. It was also decided that the regular meeting of the commission will be held after every two months.
