Kohima police have confiscated about 200 kilograms of cannabis and a vehicle the authorities said the driver fled after leaving it behind. The authorities issued a press release on Tuesday informing about the event. On October 6, police god wind of an illegal consignment of ganja in Chakhabama. Accordingly the District Intelligence Branch of Kohima proceeded to the area and began frisking vehicles.
During the check, one Tata Xenon bearing the registration NL-06A-4043, (chassis MAT524001DRK08133, and engine KWY650377) came but on being ordered to stop, the driver of the vehicle fled leaving the vehicle behind.
“Two of the DIB personnel gave a hot pursuit to nab the driver and during which, one blank shot was fired in the air as warning from the service pistol but the driver managed to escape taking advantage of the steep terrain,” the police said.
A thorough check of the vehicle led to the discovery of around 200 kilograms of cannabis neatly wrapped in 22 plastic packets, the police said. The contraband was found concealed inside a secret chamber in the body of the said vehicle, the police said.
