Police stations to be penalised for cracker use violation

Dimapur, March 30 (EMN): The Mon administration has ordered a set of conditions based on the directives of the Supreme Court of India concerning the use of crackers: Police stations of areas where there is violation of regulations concerning the use of crackers shall be held responsible and for Contempt of Court.
The deputy commissioner of Mon, Thavaseelan K, issued an order on March 28 stating the Supreme Court’s directives that only fire crackers with reduced emission (“improved crackers”) and ‘green crackers’ as certified by the Petroleum Explosive Safety Organisation will be permitted to be manufactured and sold.

The IPR issued updates on Saturday stating the conditions that the government has set. Sale of the crackers shall only be through licensed vendors and it shall be ensured that these licensed vendors shall sell only those fire crackers that have been approved by the Supreme Court.

Only “community fire cracker” shall be permitted during select events of national/state/local importance. However, this is also allowed only after due permission from the district administration. Time will be fixed for crackers in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives, the updates stated.

‘On Diwali days or on any other festivals, when such fireworks generally take place, it shall be strictly be from 8:00 pm till 10:00 pm only. On Christmas Eve and New Year Eve, when such fireworks start around midnight i.e., 12:00 am, it will be from 11:55 pm till 12:30 am only,’ the IPR stated of the order.

“In case any violation is found, the concerned police station of the area shall be held personally liable for such violation and would amount to committing contempt of court.”
