Police recruits from 4 ‘backward’ dists pass out
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 30 : Under a ‘special dispensation’ programme, the Nagaland Police has recruited a new batch of havildars and constables from the four ‘backward’ districts of eastern Nagaland: Mon, Tuensang, Longleng and Kiphire.
An attestation parade for the new recruits, the 62nd batch in general, was held here on Friday at the parade ground of Nagaland Police Training School, Chumukedima.
Chief minister TR Zeliang was the chief guest at the passing out ceremony. In his speech, Zeliang encouraged the new recruits to “prove through your performances that you are no less than others”.
“Police act as the main arm of the government for the maintenance of law and order. It is for this reason that the police department is one of the biggest and most important of all the departments of the government,” he said.
The Chief Minister reminded the new recruits that they would be the first point of contact with the public. “…and the impression you create in their minds will be the impression the public will carry of the police. Hence, your performance, as well as your behaviour will be crucial in the maintenance of law and order.”
He also suggested that the State police should install “the best and most suitable officers” at the Nagaland Police Training School. “In the context of the increasing complexity of modern life, the nature of crimes has also become more complex, and more difficult to crack. Criminals are using more and more sophisticated gadgets and technology for committing crimes.
“Therefore, the police forces have to catch up with the times, and with the latest developments in technology. They have to improve and update their knowledge and skills continuously throughout their service. It is in this context that police training schools have a very important role to play, and I feel that the best and most suitable officers should be posted to the police training schools,” Zeliang said.
Outstanding performers during training were also presented with awards on the occasion. The principal of Nagaland Police Training School, Aboli Metha, presented a brief report about the types of training drilled to the new recruits.
