The Kohima police issued this image on Friday identifying a cache of banned drugs that the authorities said was ‘Horse drug’ or ‘Crazy Pill.’ The drugs were found on a youth hailing from Assam, police said.

Dimapur, March 3: Personnel of Kohima district police have arrested a person on charges of possession of a banned drug that the authorities stated was called ‘Horse Drugs’ or ‘Crazy Pill.’

The Kohima police issued a press release on Friday informing about the cache. The police have identified the arrested person as a Hussain Ahmed, a 26-year old from Karimganj in Assam has been charged.

The authorities said that the arrest took place on March 2 at the Khuzama check gate. Personnel of the Kohima police at the Khuzama inter-state check gate found on the person of the accused one kilogram of a banned drug commonly known as “Horse Drug,” the police said. The drug has the composition of methamphetamine and caffeine.

The illegal drug was found neatly wrapped in four packets, the police informed.

“The said drug in its early days was known as ‘horse drug.’ It is also named Crazy Pill in 1996. It was given to horses when pulling carts up steep hills and for other strenuous work in Shan State of Myanmar. Horse drug is sometimes called ‘bhul bhuliya’ in India,” the press release stated.

Horse Drug aka Crazy Pill
Horse drug is typically produced in a round pill tablet form. There are many different versions of horse drug and the most common are red, orange, or lime green in color.

Horse drug tablets typically are consumed orally. Another common method is called “chasing the dragon”. Users place the horse drug tablet on aluminium foil and heat it from below. As the tablet melts, vapours rise and are inhaled. The drug also may be administered by crushing the tablets into powder, which is then snorted or mixed with a solvent and injected.

When swallowed in pill form the duration of the drug’s effect is between 8–16 hours, as compared to 1–3 hours when smoked, while the intensity is considerably reduced. The peak of the drug’s effect is followed by a come down period lasting 6–10 hours, during which the user may have difficulty sleeping or eating.

This illegal drug is especially popular in Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines where it is imported from Burma or Laos. It is sometimes manufactured locally in Thailand. Myanmar is the largest producer of methamphetamine in the world, with the majority of Horse drug found in Thailand being produced in Myanmar, particularly in the Golden Triangle and North Eastern Shan State, which borders Thailand, Laos, and China.

In 2010, Myanmar trafficked 1 billion tablets to neighbouring Thailand.

“ As per the statement of arrested person referred above, the said drugs were procured from Senapati, Manipur and are supposed to be delivered to a client at Dimapur,” the police stated.

In this connection, the police have registered a regular case with Khuzama police station.
