DIMAPUR — The Pochury Hoho has joined the list of organisations to welcome Nagaland government’s decision to constitute a Reservation Review Commission (RRC).

In a press statement issued on Monday, the hoho expressed confidence that the commission, if guided by impartiality and fairness, would bring clarity and balance to the reservation policy for the benefit of all communities.

“The very essence of the BT reservation policy is to redress historical disadvantages and ensure equitable opportunities for all recognised tribes. It is therefore vital that the commission upholds the confidence of every backward tribe, fostering fairness and inclusiveness, while ensuring that no tribe is placed at a disadvantage and the spirit of equity is safeguarded,” it stated.

The hoho recalled that Pochury tribe was formally recognised as a separate tribe in 1990 and included in the backward tribe category in 1994. However, it pointed out that subsequent revisions of the reservation policy have “disproportionately affected” the community.

Citing government records, the hoho highlighted that the total number of Pochury government employees currently stands at 1,676, of which 780 are Village Guards engaged on a monthly honorarium of INR 3,000. The number of regular employees, it said, is only 896—constituting a mere 0.78% of the total state government workforce.

The organisation further stressed that the composition of the Reservation Review Commission must include individuals of credibility, integrity, and vast experience to ensure transparency and win the trust and confidence of all tribes.
