Mokokchung, Aug. 20 (EMN): Minister of PWD (Housing & Mechanical), Tongpang Ozukum on Friday said that the Centre is targeting to complete Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) I and II by August next year.

The minister was addressing ‘India @ 75: Azadi Ki Amrit Mahotsav’ event where PWD (R & B) Mokokchung Division organised a seminar on district rural road at ADC Conference Hall.

The government of India launched PMGSY in 2000 to provide all-weather road connectivity to unconnected habitations in the country as part of a poverty reduction strategy.

Ozukum said that PMGSY-III is under process in Nagaland and the state is eligible for 563 km. In this connection, he called upon the PWD (R & B) officials to implement the scheme by ensuring quality workmanship in order to benefit the people.

He also called upon village council members and district administration to monitor and extend co-operation to the department for the implementation of the projects.

“There are certain criteria and points under PMGSY-I, II and III, and every road cannot be included, therefore, we must not miss the opportunity if the road fit into the criteria,” he asserted.

Earlier, technical paper on topics such as ‘use of new technology in rural road construction; implementation of PMGSY-III scheme; and role of PMGSY in development of respective rural areas were presented by Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) Mokokchung Division, Atoba, and Executive Engineer PWD (R&B) Mangkolemba Division, Chubatoshi.

The seminar was attended by Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, administrative officers, officials from the department of Rural Development, PWD (R&B) and village council members.
