PM Modi interacts with Manipur Gram Panchayat

Imphal, Oct. 2 (EMN): As an initiative to virtually connect with Gram Panchayats and Pani Samitis across the country under Jal Jeevan Mission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday interacted with Pani Samiti Chairperson, Leitanthem Sarojini Devi of Yarou Bamdiar Gram Panchayat (GM) in Imphal West district.
The interaction for the state was organised by the Public Health Engineering department (PHED) and Yarou Bamdiar GM under Patsoi block of Imphal West as part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Yarou Bamdiar GP is the first special Gram Sabha and Samvad with Village Water Sanitation Committee (VWSC).
Interacting with the Prime Minister, Pani Samiti Chairperson Sarojini Devi informed that earlier water was available only at great distances and in long queues. Now the situation has improved as all households have piped water.
Stating that becoming open defecation free and fully covered village has led to better health in the village, she also informed that regular testing of water quality is a norm in her village, and five women have been trained to do that.
Responding to it, the Prime Minister said that the government is working consistently for bringing ease of living in the lives of people. Expressing satisfaction that real change is happening in the Northeast, Modi described the Jal Jeevan Mission as a movement to empower women and rural India with Jan Bhagidari and active participation from everyone.
Meanwhile, Peoples campaign for formulation of Gram Panchayat development plan (GPDP) will be held from Oct. 2, 2021 to Jan. 31, 2022.
Agenda of the Gram Sabha and Samvad is to sensitise the Gram Panchayat VWSC and Gram Sabha that drinking water supply is essentially a service delivery and Jal Jeevan Mission, is a lifetime opportunity to sensitise about the importance of drinking water resources, clean tap water, water conservation, water quality and the kind of water supply system suitable for the village.
Modi also launched the Rashtriya Jal Jeevan Kosh, where any individual, institution, corporate, be it in India or abroad can contribute to help provide tap water connection in every rural household, school, Anganwadi Centre, Ashramshala and other public institutions.
