PM-DevINE: Nagaland gets two projects worth INR 312.37 crore
DIMAPUR — Following the Union Cabinet’s approval of the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for the North-East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme spanning from 2022-23 to 2025-26, Nagaland has secured two significant projects worth a total of INR 312.37 crore, under this initiative.
The first project, ‘Livelihood projects relating to Special Development of Eastern Nagaland by the Department of Development Area (DUDA),’ was sanctioned on March 23, 2023, with a budget of INR 180 crore.
This ongoing livelihood project, slated for completion by March 31, 2026, aims to bolster the livelihoods of communities in eastern Nagaland, according to the latest update on the Ministry of Development of North-East Region (DoNER) portal.
Notably, during the recently concluded budget session of the Nagaland Assembly, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio announced the allocation of INR 180 crore under the PM-DevINE scheme to address developmental gaps especially in infrastructure and socio-economic sectors.
As per the DoNER projects dashboard, another project, under the infrastructure sector is the ‘Construction of 220/132 kV (2×100 MVA) and 132/33 kV (2×50 MVA) sub-station at Tsitrongse-Dimapur with associated lines in Nagaland,’ has been sanctioned on Feb. 16, 2024.
The dashboard, last updated on Feb.29, stated that the approved cost of the project is INR 132.37 crore and is scheduled to be completed on Feb.16, 2026.
Meanwhile, for the state of Assam, four projects have been approved and sanctioned at a total cost of INR 1,402.50 crore in various sectors. They include one project each in education and social development and two in infrastructure.
Except for the education sector, the other three projects were sanctioned early this year.
In Mizoram, two projects under infrastructure sector have been approved and sanctioned at a cost of INR 600 crore; for Sikkim four projects under infrastructure sector have been approved at a cost of INR 393.21 crore, while four projects under the Social Development has been sanctioned at a cost of INR 561 crore for Tripura.
Under the multi-state initiatives, three projects under the livelihood sector have been sanctioned. They include ‘NECTAR Livelihood Improvement Project (Multi-State) – Utilisation of banana pseudo stem for value-added products’ at a cost of INR 67 crore; ‘Promoting Scientific Organic Agriculture in North-East India (Multi-State)’ at a cost of INR 44.99 crore; and “Setting up a Digital Design and 3D Printing Centre of Excellence in the Electronic Mfg. Cluster (EMC) in collaboration with other govt. agencies at Tech City, Guwahati’ at a cost of INR 54.9 crore.
Additionally, under multi-state project, the ‘establishment of dedicated services for the management of Paediatric and Adult Haematolymphoid Cancers in North East India, Guwahati’ has been approved at a cost of INR 129 crore in Assam.
Overall, the total cost of approved multi-state projects is INR 295.89 crore.
