Dimapur, May 23 (EMN): Zunheboto town will soon be restricting plastic, and shall be setting in place a number of regulations to administrate the move.
A meeting of the district's task force that was set up for said objective was held on May 20 in the office chamber of the deputy commissioner in Zunheboto.
The government's publicity agency, the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates on Thursday informing about the plan.
The meeting was presided over by Shanavas C, deputy commissioner. He was stated to have briefed the board officials about restrictions on the use of plastic in the town, the IPR stated.
After thorough discussion the members agreed on the following resolutions: Segregation of dry and wet waste to be done in every household and separate waste bins for dry and wet waste will be provided in every household in Zunheboto.
Likewise, the officials decided on events that will promote and educate people on waste segregation; limit the use of plastic; payment of sanitation fees by the public.
Further, the board decided that ward task force would be set up in every ward and colony; scrap dealers will be employed for waste segregation; plastic bags over 50 microns to be banned; and tax on plastic bag to be introduced.
Further, the IPR informed about banning small pet bottles 'once a bottling unit is set up' and for which a suitable place for construction of the bottling unit is to be explored.
A 'sanitation fee' of INR 50 is to be collected from every household, the IPR added. INR 45 will be used by the Zunheboto Town Council and INR five by the ward council, the IPR informed.
