Plantation drive launched in Zunheboto

Dimapur, May 26 (EMN): Zunheboto Forest division organised a plantation drive in view of World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5 every year. In a update, it was informed that the drive was held under the initiative of Dr. Sentitula, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Zunheboto on the  theme “Connecting Forest Conservation and Livelihood”.

It is being organised in partnership with the District Executive Force Zunheboto, 32 Assam Rifles Zunheboto, 8th NAP Naltoqa and 111 BSF Satakha.

The DFO stated that the target set was 50,000 saplings to be planted by the joint effort of Forest department, Police and Armed Forces. She encouraged individuals, departments and organisations to come forward and be a part of the activity.

The plantation drive kick started from divisional forest office, Zunheboto on Wednesday and will culminate on June 5.

The event was witnessed by Masetshilong, Additional Superintendent of Police, Zunheboto, Y Kumtsu Yim, Deputy Commandant 8th NAP, Naltoqa, Major Sebastian, 32 Assam Rifles Zunheboto, Forest officers and staff.

Meanwhile, Shikavi, Forest Beat Officer, Aghunato chaired the event and in his introduction expressed his happiness to work together with the Police and Armed Forces for ‘eco-restoration works’. He further expressed hope that the tree planting activity would be the beginning of working together, not only towards securing livelihoods but also securing the eco-system.
