Piped water supply to all schools and Anganwadi centres

Dimapur, Nov. 14 (EMN): Under the Jal Jeevan Mission ‘Har Ghar Jal,’ all schools and Anganwadi centres are to first get connected with piped water supply. In this regard, the department of Public Health Engineering (PHED) has undertaken a 100-day campaign on safe water to schools and Anganwadi centres.

To create awareness on the importance of safe drinking water to children, an intensive IEC campaign was conducted in Medziphema and Dhansiripar sub-divisions in Dimapur district.

An update from the IEC consultant of DWSM, PHED, Dimapur division, Vibou Seyie informed that school teachers, Anganwadi workers and water and sanitation committee representatives from all the villages under the respective blocks attended the programme.

In Medziphema, SDO, PHED, Ichirang Zeliang solicited constructive suggestions to realise the objective as per the conditions and requirements of the village and to inculcate a sense of belonging towards the assets created by the government.

In Dhansiripar block, SDO, N Temsu Pongen and junior engineer Hotolu Sumi echoed similar views of maintaining and upkeep of facilities provided for the development of the village.

Chemist of District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM), PHED, Dimapur division, spoke on the need of water quality and monitoring besides highlighting the subject of contamination and the risks involved. She encouraged the participants to avail the government water testing facilities and also make use of field testing kits.

The IEC consultant spoke on the crucial role of teachers and Anganwadi workers in behavioural change of young and receptive minds. She appealed to carry forward the message of safe and secure drinking water, dangers of open defecation, water and sanitation related diseases, focusing on hand washing with soap, which has come to fore especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The programmes were followed with interactive sessions. Similar campaigns were held in other blocks.
