Pioneer nurse of Nagaland Ketusieü no more

KOHIMA — One of the first certified nurses from Nagaland, Ketusieü (Atso) Kathipri, breathed her last on Thursday night in Kohima. Ketusieü is the mother of Kaisa Rio, wife of Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio.

The funeral service was held at her residence at Midland on Friday in Kohima.

During the service, Medovino Phizo read the Bible and said an invocation prayer, while a song was presented by from members of Union Baptist Church (UBC), Kohima.

Thejao Vihienuo, vice chairman of UBC deacon board, led the service, while Visato Yhoshü, pastor of UBC, administered the funeral rites.

Speech on behalf of UBC was delivered by Keviyachü Liegise and on behalf of family was said by Athili Kathipri.

A host of ministers and advisors accompanied the chief minister in paying homage to the departed.

Joined Nagaland Service at Tuensang Civil Hospital on February 1, 1958

Transferred to Naga Hospital Kohima on August 12, 1958

Promoted to matron at Civil Hospital Mokokchung on July 1, 1962

Transferred to Naga Hospital Kohima on April 12, 1965

Promoted to assistant nursing superintendent on February 1, 1980

Promoted to nursing superintendent on July 22, 1982

Retired on February 1, 1989

Organisations and leaders condole demise of Ketusieü

NDPP: Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and NDPP central youth organisation have condoled the demise of Ketusieü (Atso) Kathipri, mother of Kaisa Rio, the wife of Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, who passed away on August 24 in Kohima. The party president, Chingwang Konyak, stated that Ketusieü, a nurse by profession, was known for her love, dedication and sincerity towards tending to her patients which she maintained throughout her years of service. In another statement, the NDPP youth organisation has described Ketusieü as a remarkable individual who touched the lives of many being a loving mother and a nurse by profession. It stated that her enduring power of love and care would be forever cherished by those fortunate enough to have known her. The party has conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for peace of the departed soul.

Patton: Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton, stated that Kathipri had served the people selflessly as a nurse in different areas of Nagaland till her retirement. Patton stated that God granted her a long life so that she could be a blessing and inspiration to so many people.

He, on behalf of the state BJP legislators, conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members.

KG Kenye: Minister of Power and Parliamentary Affairs, KG Kenye, said Ketusieü lived an exemplary life by dedicating better part of her life in nursing profession. He added that her immense contribution towards the health sector and the society would be cherished.

Kenye further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for peace of the departed soul.
