PIL on poor roads and bridges filed

Dimapur, July 20 (EMN): A PIL has been filed on July 18 by two citizens against the State of Nagaland for the poor conditions of roads and bridges in the state inspite of a sanction large amount of money between May 2016 to March 2017. The petitioners ST Yapang Lkr and Odi Jamir prayed the court that they have been witnessing slow development the state that usually is blamed to lack of money and poor financial position of teh state government. However a reply to an RTI application indicated that the Finance Department Drawal Authority to PWD(Roads and Bridges) on 62 occasions and under Demand 8, Rs 342 Crores, 22 Lakhs 8 thousand was sanctioned between 06/05/2016 and 31/03/2017.Still the condition of the roads and bridges in the state continues to worsen with the recent collapse of a bridge and highways being washed away that forced them to knock the doors of the court. The petition was heard in the court of Justice LS Jamir in the Kohima bench of the Gauhati High Court and a the matter will be listed again after four week.
