    KOHIMA — Ahead of the first-ever World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025, which is to be held in Mumbai from May 1 to the 4th, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Monday held a press conference at the Kohima Press Club conference hall highlighting India’s efforts to position itself as a global hub for content creation, intellectual property, and technological innovation.

  • Assistant director of PIB Kohima Sonikumar Singh said that the WAVES will showcase India’s rich cultural heritage through spirituality and Yoga, performing arts, literature and philosophy, and the tradition of storytelling.

  • He highlighted that WAVES is India’s first-of-its-kind global platform dedicated to amplifying the nation’s creative strength and positioning it as a hub for content creation, intellectual property, and technological innovation.

  • He said that the summit will bring together leading professionals from industries including broadcasting, print media, television, radio, films, animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, sound and music, advertising, digital media, social media platforms, generative AI, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and extended reality (XR).

  • Stating that the government of India is trying to promote the cultural tradition and ancient heritage of India through the use of modern tools and technologies, films, poems, comics, and so on, he updated that many renowned sportspersons, celebrities, and other personalities will be present at the summit.

  • There will also be a Global Media Dialogue, where participants can interact with ministers and key policymakers dealing with the media and entertainment (M&E) sector across the globe. Other activities will include exhibitions, a thought leaders track, the Bharat Pavilion, WAVES Bazaar, waveXcelerator, and WAVES Cultural.

  • Further, it will feature the Animation Filmmakers Competition, where both students and professionals can participate. There will be awards of excellence for creating showreels and ad films, a VFX competition, a game jam, Esports championships, city quests competition, Innovate2Educate – Handheld Device Challenge competition, the Tech Triumph competition, Comics Creator Championship, WAVES Comic Chronicles, XR Creator Hackathon, AI Avatar Creator Challenge, WAVES AI Art, WAVES Promo Video Challenge, and the Truthtell Hackathon, among other competitions, which will be held during the four-day summit.

  • Other competitions include the Community Radio Content Challenge, WAVES Hackathon: Adspend Optimiser, Make the World Wear Khadi, WAVES Explorer, WAVES Reel Making, Film Poster Making, Trailer Making, Young Filmmakers Challenge, Battle of the Bands, Symphony of India, Theme Music Competition, the EDM Challenge, Anti-Piracy Challenge, and many others.
