DIMAPUR — The village council of Phor village in Phek district has disqualified and terminated the GB of the village, T Nyupuli Jorror, from the post with immediate effect and decided that he shall no longer be inducted into any other Phor village leadership post.

The move came after Jorror failed to tender his resignation within the stipulated time allotted to him by the council, which expired on August 27.

Providing the sequence of events in a letter to DC Phek, the office of the Phor Village Council mentioned that Jorror, along with his son Krutatu, was found to have willfully demolished the ticket counter of Nagaland State Transport (NST) at Phor village without prior permission from any authority on March 14.

Following this, the council convened a general public meeting of Phor citizens on March 27, in which the house declared that, as a public leader, instead of protecting and safeguarding public property, Jorror committed a crime and should be disqualified from the post of goan bura.

Further, the house reiterated the resolution adopted during the meeting of the Phor Village Council members and the Phor Village Christian Revival Church Staff members on January 16, 2022, in which it was resolved that any land ownership claim on standing public property and institutions by any individual or clan within Phor village jurisdiction shall not be entertained in the future for the welfare of the Phor community.

The letter also stated that since ancient times, any person or group of people who demolish or damage public properties or other properties is liable to severe punishment, even to the extent of excommunication from the village or forfeiture of the clan’s rights, depending on the gravity of the crime, as customary/traditional practices that are still enforced today.

However, it maintained that Jorror repeatedly requested and prayed that he may be granted some time to submit his resignation to the council himself, and it was resolved that he must resign from the post within five months w.e.f. March 27, 2023, and failure to resign within the stipulated time would lead to termination.

Even after the expiration of the stipulated date, the letter—signed by village council chairman (Y Azah), village chief (R Atathu), and youth president (Shitu)—said the council did not receive the resignation letter.
